Royalton Riviera Cancun Receives Gold Award for Sustainability by Travelife
On November 27, Royalton Riviera Cancun added another impressive title to its list of accomplishments winning the Gold Award for sustainability from Travelife. This award, presented to hotels who exhibit an ability to manage their impact socially, environmentally and economically, is a recognition of Royalton Luxury Resort’s strong commitment to sustainable operations in Cancun, Mexico.
“This acknowledgement from Travelife helps us show our guests just how well we are able to operate in a sensible manner,” said Francisco Jorge, General Manager of Royalton Riviera Cancun. “From the local environment to fair business practices, Royalton Riviera Cancun strives to lead by example.”
Since opening in December 2014, Royalton Riviera Cancun implemented a number of ecologically beneficial programs. First, the sea turtle program that ran from May to November saw the protection of 50 turtle nests, allowing 99.5% of the hatchlings to reach the ocean safely. Equally important, the resort was kept over 3 tonnes of waste out of local landfills through proper waste management. Policies through this waste initiative include responsible use of resources, proper labelling of garbage versus recyclables, and the composting of organic food waste. Socially, Royalton Riviera Cancun aids the local community by hosting artisan markets at the hotel, where guests buy handmade souvenirs, and the resort works with suppliers in the area thereby supporting the business community of Puerto Morelos in addition to providing jobs to over two-thousand people.
